With 23 years of experience as a CEO of five organisations dependent on commercial revenue, and a further 10 years running my own businesses;
• At London Zoo and Whipsnade, I took over when it was in a very public financial decline and governance crisis. I reinvigorated the mission around conservation, radically cut costs, and boosted the quality of its zoos and science. Four years later, it was creating a sustained operating surplus of 10-15%.
• At the Countryside Alliance, I reinvigorated revenue-generating membership benefits and our numbers doubled to 140,000
• At Wilton Park (FCO agency), I re-engineered its strategic relevance to the FCO (“a front-line asset for UK foreign policy” Sir Simon Fraser), turned a systemic deficit into surplus
• At the London Chamber, I reversed a 20-year decline in membership to make it one of the fastest growing chambers in the UK, and turned an underlying operating deficit of £250k into a £ 1m surplus in each of the past two years with a 30% increase in productivity
